3 Top Digital Marketing Tips For Nonprofits
Last week we attended the highly anticipated B2B Marketing Expo held at ExCeL London! Its Europe’s biggest marketing event of its kind, attended by some of the worlds most renowned and established marketers. With over 700 exhibitors, 500 seminars and 200 interactive masterclasses from the likes of Google, LinkedIn, ITV, Fujitsu, Sage and many more, its safe to say it was an insightful couple of days!
We have accumulated 3 top tips to help you perfect your marketing today, and also future proof your strategy for tomorrow!
1) Increasing social media engagement
Its no secret that social media plays a huge part in attracting and engaging donors. However, whilst everyone else is capitalising off social media, do you feel discouraged or demotivated to continue to post, due to a lack of engagement? Well, if that’s the case then its time to shake up your content strategy.
Lets begin to think about what social media is predominately there to achieve to be social, right?
There are so many people that cant function without the work charities carry out, so its only natural that every charity wants to shout about their accomplishments on every channel they own. However, telling everyone how amazing your charity is and constantly asking for donations can get tedious very quickly for both you and the reader.
With everyone trying to attract donors, you need to find a way to stand out in this busy space. We guarantee that if you start to ask open-ended questions, encourage people to share their opinions, host interactive polls, have conversations with people in the comment section, and begin to communicate the story and hurdles overcome by your cause, you will start to see a spike in engagement and attract new donors! Give it a try and let us know in the comment section below how you get on!
If you want to learn more about how you can improve your social media strategy to increase donations, we’ve got you covered!
2) Seeing GDPR as a positive opportunity
As I sit here writing this, there are just 58 days, 8 hours, 44 minutes and 54 seconds, until General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) come into force in the UK. So, while its not too late to put your plan into action, you should already be aware of what GDPR is, and how its going to affect your non-profit. If you’re not, you’ve been hiding under a rather large rock!
It essentially changes the way organisations store data and how they utilise it.
Organisations are now emailing their database to ask for consent to continue contacting them and/or what type of content they would specifically like to receive. Were looking at this as an opportunity to learn more about the people in your database, so make your GDPR campaign efficient, interesting and transparent. From personable videos with clear call to actions, to plain text emails that are to the point; the more effort you put into your GDPR strategy now, then you’ll be in a great position when May 25th comes around.
its important that you see GDPR as an opportunity to get your house in order, which will inspire trust in your cause. The entire GDPR legislation document is 11 chapters and 99 articles long, so if you’re yet to find the time to read it, here is a blog that summarises the benefits in the meantime. Find out how GDPR is going to benefit the third sector.
3) Blockchain technology is the future of digital marketing?
Blockchains? Smart Contracts? Cryptocurrencies? You can be forgiven for being confused when it comes to blockchain technology. However, the more we learn about its potential, the more excited we become, especially when it comes to digital marketing.
Blockchain technology is essentially the new backbone for the internet, but revolutionary when it comes to transferring intrinsic value (finances, data, personal information etc), and ensuring they are as secure as can be. Think of it as a super computer, with lots of different blocks of information being stored in different places across the globe, all interconnected with each other, and without a single point of failure.
Originally the technology behind Bitcoin, an online decentralised e-cash allowing for financial transactions between two people anywhere in the world, almost instantly and with little or no fees, developers have started to develop new fork projects that are revolutionising how people interact online.
You’re probably wondering how you can benefit from this…
There are new projects popping up every day, but one that was mentioned at the expo is called Basic Attention Token. From the creator of JavaScript and the co-founder of Mozilla and Firefox, BAT is aiming to radically improve efficiency with digital advertising, that could fundamentally change the way we market content to readers, by removing ads, and instead puts the focus on engagement with content. This gives readers a better user experience, rewarding them for reading and engaging with content.
Whilst this project is still in its infancy, content marketing could be in for a drastic overhaul, and SEO ranking factors could change along with it. Check out this video, which explains the Basic Attention Token project and how it could change digital advertising!*
